The fuel wood industry comprised of industrial and heating wood pellets is growing worldwide. Industrial wood pellets are used as a substitute for coal in coal-fired plants, and wood pellets are used as fuel for heating homes. Canada is well positioned in this industry due to vast forest reserves across the country and an extensive, highly developed agricultural industry.
The fuel wood industry represents an important export market for Canada and an alternative low cost fuel source for Canadians. In addition, the industry represents a potentially significant source of employment across the country.
The National Citizens Alliance (NCA) supports federal government tax incentives to encourage the growth of the industry:
● Tax incentives for fuel wood production
● Tax incentives for the design and production of wood pellet equipment to heat water and homes, and generate electricity
● Tax incentives on the production of vehicles fueled by wood pellets
The National Citizens Alliance believes that the fuel wood industry has a lot of potential, and that Canada is well-positioned to be a leader in this industry. Consequently, the National Advancement supports a variety of tax incentives to encourage the growth of the industry.
