The National Citizens Alliance (NCA) addresses poverty from a federal perspective. Articles 91 and 92 of the Canadian Constitution (1867) allows for both federal and provincial jurisdictions regarding poverty issues. The NCA has identified five core areas of poverty pertaining to the federal jurisdiction:
● Aboriginal affairs
● Child care
● Income (including annual income, minimum wage, welfare, and related taxation)
● Food insecurity
● Social services (including immigration/integration services)
The National Citizens Alliance takes a collective approach to poverty issues, whereby different community organizations work together to help Canadians in true need.
In addition, the NCA believes that justice and fairness should be equal for all Canadians. Therefore, some of the NCA’s poverty related policies are focused on ensuring that middle and low income individuals and families have equal and fair opportunity.
The following poverty related policies have been adopted by the National Citizens Alliance:
Aboriginal
Child Care
Food Insecurity
Taxation
Note, the National Citizens Alliance has a number of other policies, such as Employment and Economic Growth, Health Care, and Food Security, that overlap with the issue of poverty as well.
The NCA welcomes feedback on its policies. Please send policy feedback to info@nationalcitizensalliance.ca
